- Heat exchanger
A fan coil consists of a heat exchanger coil and a fan. The coil receives hot or cold water generated by a heat pump or other thermal generation system.
What is a fan coil?
Fan coils are ideal to combine with a heat pump system (geothermal or aerothermal). They allow for efficient and comfortable operation at low temperatures for heating and high temperatures for cooling.
They quickly reach the desired temperature, and once reached, they maintain it with minimal consumption thanks to the natural convection effect.
Each unit is supplied with a flow pipe and a return pipe. This system can only provide heating or cooling, but not both at the same time.
Each unit will be supplied with one flow and one return pipe for heating, and another pair of flow/return pipes for cooling. With this system, you can provide heating and cooling simultaneously,
They are installed on the wall in the same way as a radiator.
Completely integrated into the floor, they leave a grid visible, which can have a variety of different coatings.
They could be installed at the top of the wall, anchored to the ceiling, or embedded in false ceilings.
This type of fan coil unit is placed in a suspended ceiling.
They are installed in false ceilings, where a single unit distributes air to different rooms through a network of ducts that can also be installed in false ceilings or left exposed.
They are very efficient equipment, which can work at low temperatures. In combination with a heat pump, they offer significant savings compared to other air conditioning systems.
Using convection, they quickly reach the desired comfort temperature and maintain it naturally, with minimal consumption.
Thanks to their built-in filters, they purify the air of dust, dust mites, and bacteria.
Maintenance is simple because there is no need to recharge the refrigerant gas (they use water instead).
They provide a solution to cover the demand for both heating and cooling, and dehumidification.
They use water as the heat transfer fluid, so the hydraulic installation is much simpler than the installation with refrigerant gas used in air-to-air systems.
They only use water, which makes them ecological equipment, with no polluting emissions.
Thanks to the wide variety of models and different installation possibilities, they adapt to any space and environment.
The temperature in each room can be regulated using a thermostat integrated into the unit itself or through a room thermostat.
It can be used as a support system to heat/cool the house quickly, combined with systems such as underfloor heating, which takes longer and has some limitations (in cooling operation).
Air conditioning using fan coil units generates high thermal comfort almost immediately, silently, without annoying air jets.
You are building or have planned to build your home. You would like to enjoy a comfortable temperature in summer and winter without having to worry about the energy bill. You are looking for the best solution for today and the future
You want to renew your old heating system. You are looking to reduce energy costs without sacrificing comfort. You are willing to invest in a more modern system, as long as this investment is amortized with the savings generated.
Our engineering department will provide you with calculations, designs, and justifications of the project at no cost to you. We will consider your client’s needs in order to determine the best solution.
As noted above, there is a wide variety of fan coil units.
What will mainly determine the type of equipment is the place where we are going to install it (wall, floor, embedded in the ceiling…). Another fundamental factor is the power required to cover the heating/cooling demand of the room to be air-conditioned. In addition, there is a great variety of brands that offer this technology, with different qualities, accessories, regulation possibilities, technological innovations… Due to this, it is easy to imagine that the range of prices can be very wide.
We must also consider other elements of the installation that account for between 20% and 40% of the total cost.
We can, however, provide this price guide for fan coils in a two-pipe installation (heating and cooling).
To help you understand the price of fan coils for a single-family house, we have created this simple guide.

Find out more about the subsidies currently in force in our country for the installation of fan coil units.
These aids approved by the government in June 2021 subsidize the new interior distribution of air conditioning for the incorporation of fan coils for aerothermal and geothermal projects, provided that these systems work 100% with renewable energy:550€/ kW up to a maximum of 1.830€.
These grants will be in force until December 31, 2023, but as has been the case in recent calls, the subsidies are non-competitive; that is, they will be processed in order of entry in the registry and until the credit is exhausted. Therefore, it is important to submit the grant application as soon as possible.
The starting dates for submitting applications vary depending on the region.
These are the regions that have already announced their dates:
